Pinecones collected; Christmas stockings hung

Our fireplace mantel is finally decorated for the season! I love seeing the three jolly baskets of giant pinecones everyday; it was fun picking them from the church grounds. My little boys were thrilled to hang little wooden ornaments on the faux little tree; that was days before we bought our 6ft Douglas fir. The birds painting is from etsy store ShaNickers.

There are six Christmas stockings this year, two for my folks who are visiting us all month; we love having them spend the festive season with us. This is the third Christmas that we'll be celebrating in this house; the other Christmases were spent in tropical Singapore where my family and relatives live.

This is my favorite season of all year for so many reasons; here are just a few reasons why:

  • I love the cold weather and crisp air
  • I love sipping hot chocolate with whipped cream
  • I love warm apple cider topped with a touch of caramel
  • I love snuggling in my warm PJs
  • I love collecting giant pinecones with my boys
  • I love decorating our tree and the mantel
  • I love the smell of fresh fir in the house
  • I love peppermint bark
  • I love baking festive cookies and cakes
  • I love having eggnog with freshly grated nutmeg
  • I love seeing holiday festive foods everywhere
  • I love warming up to a bowl of hot beef and sausage stew
  • I love giving and receiving Christmas presents and cards
  • I love the shopping challenge
  • and best of all, I love that our wedding anniversary and our boys' birthdays all happen during this festive season
Our tree is completely decorated, except for the star topper and a few handmade ornaments. I am still waiting out until I see the perfect star topper. I have a couple in mind; just have to make that decision, ha!
